Dorothy Lucille Johnson

Dorothy Johnson, 92, of Grand Island passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society-Grand Island Village. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Pastor Steve Warriner officiating. Interment will follow at Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 AM until service time on Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.

Dorothy Lucille Johnson was born February 13, 1924 to Carl and Lena Switzer in Greeley County, Nebraska. After high school, she came to Grand Island and waitressed at the Cornhusker Caf. Dorothy was united in marriage to Jim Johnson in 1947. During her lifetime she worked at The Kiddie Shop; Skagway North; as well as Delicious Foods. Dorothy loved to cook holiday meals, including making lots of Christmas cookies and candies.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her daughter, Sharon Giannakopoulos; granddaughter, Jill Bellairs Valderaz and two grandsons, Justin Johnson and Ty Johnson; six great-grandchildren, TJ Valderaz; Mattea Valderaz; Taylor Valderaz; Jessica Martinez; Alicia Chacon and Emma Johnson; two great-great-grandchildren, Maelyna and Maximo Sobin; sisters, Frances Stanley Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO; and Donna Jensen of St. Paul, NE; and a brother, Wayne Switzer of Grand Island. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of over 50 years, Jim Johnson; grandson, Danny Bellairs; her oldest brother, Billy Dean Switzer; and her first great-great-grandchild, Rithy Sobin.
