Dorothy May Hart

June 21, 1926 — October 19, 2016

Dorothy M. Hart, 90 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Golden Living Center Lakeview in Grand Island.



Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 24, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Grand Island, Nebraska with the Bishop Jon Rosenlund officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Valentine, Nebraska. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.



Visitation will be from 4-6 P.M. Sunday, October 23, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.



Dorothy was born on June 21, 1926 in Valentine, Nebraska the daughter of Benjamin H. and Agnes A. (Turner) Owens. She received her education at Keya Paha County High School in Springview, Nebraska and later received her teaching certificate. She taught for 2 years, K-8, at Rural Cherry County.



She was united in marriage to Floyd Henry Hart on October 5, 1946 in Ainsworth, Nebraska. The couple resided on a farm near Ainsworth and she was a homemaker. She was also a primary teacher for many years. She later moved to Grand Island in 1984.



She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was very active in the Relief Society when she was in good health and she was very devoted to the church and her church family. She especially enjoyed doing ceramics and visiting with her family.



Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Jolene Hart of Savonburg, Kansas and Eugene Gene and Ann Hart of Creston, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Marcia Hart, April Hart, Spencer Hart, Caitlyn Hart, Nathan (Lisa) Hart, Brandy (Harlan) Held, Michael (Shannon) Hart, and Devin Hart; great-grandchildren, Kerstyn, Jacob, and Addison Held, Aubrey, Kairyn, Hadleigh, and Caylee Hart; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Verlee Owens of Sioux City, Iowa, Thomas and Doris Owens of Sparks, Nebraska, Max and Donna Owens of Eads, CO; sister, Harriet Brown of Eads, CO.



She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, William Owens, Robert Owens, and brother-in-law, Wesley Brown.
