Dorothy R. Hodges, 98, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Tiffany Square Care Center, in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Monday, May 12, 2014 at First-Faith United Methodist Church, 4190 West Capital Avenue, Grand Island with the Rev. Chad Boling officiating. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Visitation hours will be one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church or the Dawson County Chapter 33 Order of the Eastern Star. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Dorothy R. Hodges was born August 7, 1915 at Shelton, Nebraska the daughter of Lute & Edith (Zobel) Smith. She received her education in Shelton, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Elden E. Hodges on November 25, 1931 in Hastings, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Lexington where she was a seamstress at Evans Dress Shop. They later moved to Colorado where she and her husband owned and operated Valley Ford Car Dealership. At retirement they spent their summers in Grand Island and their winters in Scottsdale, AZ. Her husband, Elden preceded her in death 1996.
Dorothy was an avid gardener, she also enjoyed traveling and sewing, but she truly enjoyed her time spent with her family.
She was a member of First Faith United Methodist Church, Grand Island, and Order of the Eastern Star where she served as past Worthy Matron, in Lexington.
Those left to cherish her memory include a daughter and son-in-law, Lorrine Rene & Tom Pesha of Grand Island; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hodges of Scottsdale, AZ; four grandchildren, Cynthia Schwensen and her husband Chris of Clay Center, KS, Shannon Fitzgerald and her husband James of Omaha, Mark Hodges of Scottsdale, AZ and Mike Hodges of Scottsdale, AZ; seven great grandchildren, Pesha and Chance Ptacek, Christiana and Scott Peterson, Tom Fitzgerald, Jessica and Nick Lawson, and Holly Fitzgerald; and five great-great grandchildren, Brielle and Tiernan Ptacek , and Christian, Patrick and Carey Peterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elden E. Hodges, son, Elden Bud L. Hodges, June 17, 2012, three brothers, and two sisters.
