LINCOLN Dorrene Olga Andersen, 89, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island, with the Rev. Bill Pavuk officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time Friday at the church. Apfel Funeral Home is in caring for the family. Mrs. Andersen was born Nov. 25, 1923, at Grand Island to Henry A. and Olga (Beckmann) Meinecke. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene E. Andersen. Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Cynthia Andersen of Omaha; and a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Charles Daniel Brokaw of Lincoln. Also surviving are four grandchildren and spouses, Lisa and Nick Barcel of Omaha, Laura and John Vristka of Omaha, Jacob and Courtnee Brokaw of Fayetteville, Ark., Jeffery Brokaw of Columbus; and two great-grandchildren, Tayor and Ethan Barcel of Omaha. She grew up in Grand Island attending District 74 and graduated from Grand Island Senior High with the Class of 1940. She received her teaching certificate from Kearney State Teachers College, later teaching for five years at Sutherland, two years at Superior, one year at Seward and two years at Grand Island. She was united in marriage to Eugene E. Andersen on May 29, 1952, at Grand Island. The couple made their home in Grand Island, where she was a homemaker and part-time substitute teacher. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and a 4-H leader. She enjoyed her SipN Sew sewing club and she and her husband spent over 20 summers fishing together at Sherman County Reservoir. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Elmer Meinecke, Henry Meinecke, Walter Meinecke;and a sister, Dorothy Trampe. Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church, Grand Island.
