Doug Mcphillips

Lawrence D. Doug McPhillips, 72, of Grand Island passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013, at his home. Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Leos Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Charles Torpey will officiate. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family. Doug was born September 8, 1941, at Hastings, Nebraska to Lawrence D. and Therese M. (OBrien) McPhillips. He grew up and received his education in Wood River, graduating from Wood River High School. Doug then attended business school in Omaha for two years. Doug married Julia Hulett on May 3, 1969 at North Platte, Nebraska. They made their home in Grand Island where he was employed by Chief Industries for 37 years. He was a member of St. Leos Catholic Church and Blessed Sacrament. Doug enjoyed many styles of art, and cherished time spent with his family. He is survived by his wife, Julia McPhillips of Grand Island; four children, Evan McPhillips of Omaha, Brett McPhillips and his fianc(c) Tina of Lincoln, Kelley McPhillips of Grand Island and Courtney McPhillips-Davis and her husband Derrick of Gilbert, AZ; a sister-in-law and her husband, Maryellen and Vernon Johnson of Casper, WY; ten grandchildren: Michael, Alexis, Ellisia, Ian, Jacob, Noah, Elsie, Wyatt, Daphne, Elijah and one soon to arrive. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
