Hastings resident, Dr. Gordon E. Till, 80, passed away, Friday, January 20, 2012 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Hastings-Village. Services will be Tuesday, January 24, 2011, at 10 AM at the First Baptist Church, Hastings, NE with Pastor Larry Harvey and Pastor Tom Murray officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military rites. Visitation will be Monday, January 23, 2011 from 9 am to 9 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Hastings, NE or the family. Gordon was born March 9, 1931 to George M. and Clara (Norbo) Till in Concordia, KS. He grew up on a farm near Whiting, Iowa. He met Eyelyn R. Johnson from Wausa, NE at Camp Joy Bible camp and eventually married on July 12, 1953. Gordon joined the Air Force in 1951 as Staff Sergeant stationed in SAC Air Force base in Omaha, NE. He obtained a barbers license to work his way through dental school at UNL. He graduated from dental school in 1963 with honors and with a childrens dentistry award. He practiced general dentistry in Aurora for 11 years. He earned an additional degree at UNL and started orthodontics practice in the Foote Building in Hastings, NE, where he practiced for 17 years. Due to severe arthritis he retired early and worked at CCC where he assisted inmates with educational services. Gordon had membership in Aurora Lions Club, American Dental and Orthodontic Associations and received the 50th anniversary award from the American Legion. He considered his greatest accomplishment as accepting Jesus as his personal savior and Lord. His greatest possessions were love of his family and friends. Music was his enduring passion all his life. During high school he played church organ and acquired state honors in choir and quartet. For about 60 years he and Evelyn sang in choirs and duets together. Gordon played organ at the First Baptist Church for over 30 years. He served his community neighbors and the churches he attended all through his life. He particularly enjoyed teaching the youth in various churches and singing music in their ears while tending to there orthodontic needs. He is survived by 3 daughters, Pamela Scherer and husband Jim, Michelle Dungan and husband Tim and Sherilynn Lewis and husband David, 6 grandchildren, Justin and Jesse Scherer, Charles and Nicholas Dungan and Danielle and Cody Lewis, one great grandchild, Remington Lewis, one sister Ruth Haafe and husband Dick and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, 1 brother, George B. Till and 1 nephew, Robert Gordon Haafke.
