Dr. Robert Calvin Sneller

Hastings resident Robert Calvin Sneller, 80, died Friday, December 14th, 2007 at his home, 406 University. Memorial service will be Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 11 AM at St. Mark's Pro-Cathedral with the Very Rev. Robert Neske officiating. There will be no visitation. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Arrangements by the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Robert was born December 25, 1926 to Dr. Floyd C. And Lydia (Sourezney) Sneller in Hastings, NE. He attended Hastings High School graduating in 1944. He attended Hastings College 1943-1944, 1946-1947. He received a Doctor of Optometry degree from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1950. On February 17, 1951 he married Marjorie Kurfman of Chicago, and the couple returned to Hastings where he was associated in practice with his grandfather, Dr. D.C. Sneller and father, Dr. F.C. Sneller. He was recalled to active duty in the U.S. Navy in June 1951. He served as a hospital corpsman 1944 to 1946 and as an optometrist during the Korean War. He was released from naval service in 1970 as Lieutenant Commander. He was active in many organizations including: Boy Scouts of America (Eagle Scout, Order of Arrow), Order of Demolay (Master Councilor), and UCT (Master Councilor). He also served on the Community Chest Board of Directors, the Salvation Army, Nebraska Optometrist Association (President), Hastings Jaycees and Community Chest (President). He volunteered at the Hastings Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the St. Mark's Pro-Cathedral since 1947 where he served on the vestry, acted as a junior and senior warden, and was a lay reader and Eucharistic minister. He is survived by, his wife, Marjorie Sneller, son, Todd and wife Mary Sneller, son, Jeff Sneller daughter, Peg Sneller-Hamilton and Jeff Hamilton, all of Lincoln, NE, son, Scott and wife Judy Sneller of Plattsmouth, NE, and daughter Sally Heuertz of Jacksonville, Florida. 12 grandchildren, Kristin, Kailin, Kelly, Ashley, Jacob, Jonah, Jessa, Kristen, Jer, Erin, Katie, Alexandra, and 1 great grandchild, Bella and 1 sister, Betty Richardson, of Omaha, NE. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother, Lois Sneller and step-sister, Sylvia. Memorials may be given to the St. Mark's Foundation.
