Dwaine L. Asch

Grand Island resident, Dwaine L. Asch, 80, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Grand Island Veterans Home, Grand Island, NE. Memorial services will be Friday, February 17th, 2012 at 10:30 at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury,NE. Burial will be in the Fairbury Cemetery with military rites at graveside. Dwaine was born August 26, 1931 to Leonard and Ernestine (Luhring) Asch in Washington, KS. He farmed during his early years then enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from October 17, 1952 to July 16, 1954 where he earned the Purple Heart and other metals. He married Norla Mueller on January 1954, they later divorced in 1978. He was a mechanic for Chrysler garages in Beatrice and Fairbury, NE. He later opened his own mechanic business in Fairbury retiring in 1977 due to health reasons. He was a member of the VFW and DAV Clubs in Fairbury. He is survived by two sons, Mike and wife Joann of Lincoln, NE and Jeff and wife Debra of Hastings, NE, five grandchildren, Amanda and Kylie of Lincoln, NE, Jeremy, Jami Tomlin and husband Scott, and Kelley, one great grandson, Alexander Tomlin, all of Hastings, NE; three sisters, Lorene Hynek and husband Bud and Eleanor Helvey all of Lincoln, NE and Norma Asch of London, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Gary and one brother in law Dale Helvey. Memorials may be given to the family.
