Dwayne A. Ehresman

Dwayne Ehresman, 83, of Grand Island died May 1, 2016. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church in Grand Island with Rev. Bill Harrold officiating. Interment will be at Cottonwood Cemetery near Burwell, NE at 2:30 PM. Visitation will be on Friday, May 6, from 4 until 8 PM with the family receiving friends from 6 until 8 PM at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials have been suggested to the First Christian Church Scholarship Fund. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.

Dwayne A. Ehresman was born February 9, 1933 in Garfield County, NE to John and Mildred (Butcher) Ehresman. He grew up in Burwell and graduated from Burwell High School in 1951. He then attended business school in Omaha. He started working as a Telegraph Agent for the Union Pacific Railroad in May of 1952. Dwayne entered the US Army in 1953, serving during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955 with the rank of Corporal.

He was united in marriage to Donna J. Will on March 16, 1958 in Beatrice, NE; after which the couple moved to Grand Island in 1959 where he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad until August of 1989; at which time he was employed at Chief Automotive for the next 3 and a half years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of First Christian Church, serving on the Administrative Board, as well as various other committees and was also a long time Deacon. He was a member of American Legion Post #53. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and gardening and was a big fan of Nebraska Football.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Ehresman of Grand Island; son, Dr. Scott Ehresman of Holdrege, NE; daughter, Dr. Christine J. Keim of Lincoln, NE; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Elinor Johns.
