Ed Littler, 70, of Grand Island died Tuesday January 18, 2022, at CHI Health St. Francis. He had been hospitalized with COVID-19.
Ed’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at the Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. Bill Pavuk will officiate. The Apfel Funeral Home of Grand Island is assisting his family.
Edward G. Littler was born May 2, 1951, at Jersey City, New Jersey to Edward and Berenice (Keefe) Littler. He grew up and received his education in Jersey City. Ed continued his education at Florida State University graduating in 1976.
Ed began his broadcasting career spending his first three years as a sports reporter at WOWK-TV in Huntington, WV. He then spent two years at WSYX in Columbus, OH, five years at WYTV in Youngstown, OH and another three years at WAKC-TV in Akron, OH.
He came to central Nebraska in 1992. It quickly became his new home, one that he would never leave.
Ed was a beloved former Local4 Sports anchor and Grand Island resident. For 25 years, he worked for KHAS-TV News 5 which later became known as KSNB Local4.
He was so knowledgeable, so passionate. His work ethic was second to none. Ed was never afraid of hard work, willingly putting in the extra hours to deliver his local sports report in a memorable way.
Even Ton Osborne once said, “I wish he would have come a little sooner because when he showed up in the early 90’s, we all of a sudden got a lot better, so Ed must have been responsible for some of that.”
Ed loved his job. He loved covering all the different sports Central Nebraska has to offer. It was his life’s work. He was proud to be a Nebraskan.
His many co-workers and colleagues over the years were family to him.
He is survived by his two nieces, Stacey Littler Jones and Jennifer Lohrey Carmean; nephew, Jason Lohrey; sister-in-law, Lisa Littler; and cousins, Jane Slattery and Patricia Helmacy.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Berenice; his brothers, Frank and George; and sister, Kathleen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s name to St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island.
