Hastings resident, Edward J. Murphy, 94 passed away, Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Premier Estates of Kenesaw.



Edwards wishes were to be cremated; a Celebration of life will be held at a future date. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in care of the family.



Memorials may be given to North Shore Assembly of God Church, Hastings or Blue Valley Cemetery, Ayr, NE.



Edward was born June 13, 1923 to Alfred and Beatrice (Shoemaker) Murphy in Hazard, Kentucky. He attended school in Cincinnati, OH. He married LaVona Valentine on November 22, 1945 at the First United Methodist Church in Hastings. Edward served in the United States Air Force from 1942 to 1946. He worked as an Inspector at the Navy Ammunition Depot in Hastings and the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant in Grand Island, Ne and after retirement from the government he went to work for Westland Modular Homes in Hastings, NE.



Edward enjoyed golf, playing cards, especially gin rummy, dancing and singing to his girls, grandkids and nurses. He loved watching baseball, especially the Cincinnati Reds and played soft ball in Hastings. He was also a lifetime member of the Hastings Elks and American Legion.



He is survived by his loving wife LaVona of Hastings, three daughters, Connie Allen of Grand Island, Debbie (Milt) Kennedy of Hastings and Pam (Dan) Simoneau of Alma, 8 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, and nephew, Don (JoAnn) Fischer of Florida.



He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
