Elaine Delores Ward

Elaine Delores Ward, 83 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at CHI St. Francis Health in Grand Island.



Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Pastor Bill Pavuk will be officiating.



Visitation will be from 5-7 P.M. Monday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or the Nebraska Children's Home of Grand Island.



Elaine was born on February 21, 1933 to Walter and Clara (Hinrichs) Harms in Ong, Nebraska. The family moved to Trumbull when she was in the 8th grade and graduated from Trumbull High School in 1951. She also attended the Lincoln School of Commerce for 1 1/2 years. She was united in marriage to Philip Asher Ward on February 12, 1956 in Hastings, NE. They lived in Hastings, and then moved to Lincoln for 6 years prior to moving to Grand Island. She was employed by the Grand Island Independent for 15 years, Brodkeys Jewelry for 5 years, and Zales Jewelry for 5 years.



Elaine was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island where she taught Sunday School and served in the Ruth Circle. She was also a member of the Extension Club, DAV Auxiliary, and the VFW Club. Elaine enjoyed gardening, quilting, traveling, cooking, baking, and canning. She always grew beautiful roses.



Those left to cherish her memory include her friend, John Guthard; children and their spouses, Kenny and Vanessa Ward, Delores and Ron Tenski, Deborah and Terry Tetzlaff; stepchildren, Karen Gustafson, Philip Jr. and Shirley Ward; grandchildren, Hannah Kolega and her husband, Jeff, Caleb Ward and his finance, Marley Sommerhalder, and Jonathan Walter; step grandchildren and their spouses, Laura Sheene, Vicki Dunn, Susan and Anthony Aden, Jennifer and Shawn Rutherford, Brad and Crystal Tenski, Bryon and Martha Tenski, Trish and Jason Kollars, Dianna and Kevin Fielder; step-great grandchildren, Alan Rutherford, Michael Rutherford, Hallie Rutherford, Jeremy Stewart, Taylor Stewart, David Kitter, Arianna Lattry, Chelsea Sheen, Amber Lattry, Alexandria Fielder, Mikaela Fielder, Samantha Fielder, Rebeka Fielder, Gisella and Elianna Kollars, Isaiah and Caleb Tenski, Ethan, Aaron, and Deven Tenski; Step-great-great grandchild Arriana Latttry and sister, Beverly Breiner.



Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Philip.
