Elaine Marie Hartmann

Elaine Marie Hartmann, 94, of Grand Island passed peacefully Tuesday, December 19,2023, at Cottonwood Estates Assisted Living in Central City. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Apfel Funeral Home Pastor Andy Springer officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

She was born on August 17, 1929, in Dannebrog, NE the daughter of Thorwald and Mary (Hansen) Jorgensen. As a small child the family moved to Hayland, NE where she attended grade school and graduated from Juniata High School in 1946. She was confirmed at Christ Lutheran, Juniata, NE (Prosser). Before marriage she worked for Riggs Optical Co. and in later years worked part time at Nunnenkamp Well in the office.

Elaine met the lover of her life, Marvin Hartmann on a blind date. They were united in marriage on April 2, 1950. They lived and worked on their farm and raised their family. In 1996 after retiring, they moved to Grand Island.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wood River, Platt Duetsche, and Danish Sisterhood. She was an amazing cook and baker of cinnamon rolls, cherry pie, German chocolate cake, spritz cookies and green kale soup. Holidays were a time she would share her goodies with neighbors, friends, and family.

She is survived by daughter Ronda and Roger Wiegert of Grand Island; two sons: Kent and Janet Hartmann of Wood River and Kirk and Cindy Hartmann of Wood River; 9 grandchildren: Lindsey, Jacob, Benjamin, Tara, Tatum, Nathan, Justin, Raegan, and Kamin; 14 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rosie Hartmann of Bertrand, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Helen and Robert; husband, Marvin; son, Randall; and great granddaughter, Maisy.
