Eldon Kluthe, 78 of Cairo passed away Monday January 9, 2017 at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday January 14, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Resurrection Catholic Church in Grand Island with Fr. Mike McDermott as celebrant. Inurnment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Cairo. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 PM with a rosary at 7 PM on Friday at the church. Casual attire is requested for services. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been suggested to the Cairo Quick Response Team or to Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Parker, Arizona. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.
Eldon Richard Kluthe was born February 2, 1938 to John and Katherine (Rebhaussen) Kluthe at Dodge, Nebraska. He grew up in Dodge and received his education from Dodge Public School. Eldon was untied in marriage to Doris Burenheide on June 17, 1958 at Howells, Nebraska, after which the couple lived in Dodge where Eldon was employed at Smeals. In 1977 they moved to Cairo where they owned and operated Baasch and Sons Inc.
He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church; the Saddle Club as well as Ducks Unlimited. He was also a volunteer fireman. He sponsored several youth T-ball teams. Eldon loved to be on the farm and enjoyed his favorite dogs Sam and Motley. He enjoyed woodworking. He was a great husband, dad and grandpa and great-grandpa who loved spending time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his wife, Doris of Cairo; sons, Gerald Rudy (Susan) of Papillion; and Glen of Grand Island; daughters, Sue Bartosh of Norfolk; Lois (Bruce) Christensen of Dannebrog; Lori (Dean) Neighbors of Cairo and Jodi (Shawn) Nielsen of Phillips; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma (Leonard) Brune; and sisters in law, Martha Kluthe and LaVera Burenheide. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 6 sisters and one granddaughter.
