Elsie M. Brown

Elsie Brown, 92 of Cairo passed away February 8, 2017 at CHI Health St. Francis. Funeral Services will be Monday February 13, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Cairo United Methodist Church with Rev. Cathryn Love officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 until 7 PM at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Cairo United Methodist Church; Cairo Quick Response Team or the Boelus Fire Department. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.

Elsie M. Brown was born August 7, 1924 to David and Emma (Jausi) Stutzman at home in Cairo. She grew up in the Cairo area, lived in Grand Island for awhile then moved back to Cairo. Elsie was united in marriage to LeRoy Brown on December 8, 1953. She worked at the Ordinance Plant for 10 years as well as various other jobs. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling, her flowers, bird watching as well as fishing. She was a member of the Cairo United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, David Argent of Cairo; son in law, Francis Johnson of Cairo; daughter, Connie (Roger) VanBibber of Boelus; nephew, Jerry (Susan) Gakin; nieces, Penny (Jeff) Richardson and Kathy Larson; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Dara Lea (Dennis) Klanecky of St. Paul, NE; Merna (Joe) Matejka of Ravenna, NE; Lucille Schieve of Minot, ND; and Anna Mae Troyer of Goshen, IN; brother, Larry (Shirley) Stutzman of Cairo; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband LeRoy; daughter, Shirley Johnson; son, LeRoy Brown Jr.; brothers, Art, Floyd and Dean Stutzman and sisters, Nina Stutzman, Margaret Tellus and Elizabeth Stutzman.
