Erma M. Kalinowski

Erma M. Kalinowski, 90, of Aurora, formerly of Cairo, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora, NE. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 4, 2017, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Ravenna. Father Richard Piontkowski will officiate. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Ravenna. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with a Rosary vigil at 6 PM. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.

Erma was born June 7, 1927, in Farwell, NE, to John and Mary (Siegel) Sidel. She grew up in Farwell and graduated from Farwell High School in 1944, at the age of sixteen.

On February 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to Dominic Jess Kalinowski in Ravenna. After which the couple lived in central Nebraska where she kept busy raising their children, and worked as a waitress at many cafes and eating establishments.

Erma was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes in Ravenna and the altar society there. She enjoyed playing cards and Bingo, and putting together puzzles. Erma loved spending time and doing activities with her children and grandchildren. She had a knack for remembering everyones birthdays. She also loved flowers, gardening, and canning.

Erma is survived by sons: Ron (Karry) Kalinowski of Gering, NE, John (Tina) Kalinowski of Loup City, NE; daughters: Patricia (Jim) Leth of Aurora, NE, Judy (Jim) Rine of Kelseyville, CA; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Leo (Lucille) Kalinowski of Columbus, NE; sister-in-law: Lynda Kalinowski of Omaha, NE; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Dominic in 1985; brothers: John, Ernie, Steven Sidel; sisters: Annie Sidel, Margaret Pogorelski, Genevieve Hurt, Velma Nesiba, Irene Kizior; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
