Hastings resident, Esther Nicholas, 99, passed Monday, July 8, 2013away at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings-Village. Services will be Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 10 am at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings, NE with Rev Josh Davis officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Friday, July 12, 2013 from 1 pm to 8 pm with the family present from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Memorials may be given to the family. Esther was born the second child of David and Edna (Slaton) Horn, January 26, 1914 in Kenefic, OK. She married Roy Elmer Nicholas on October 22, 1935 in Ardmore, OK, they moved to Hastings, NE in 1942. Roy passed away August 26, 1989. Roy was employed at the Naval Ammunition Depot. Esther was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hastings. She was a caretaker in the church nursery for about 40 years, she also watched the children for the Womans Christian Club members. She ran a daycare out of her home for many years. She is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Gary) Armes of Hastings, and two sons, David (Joyce) Nicholas of Lincoln, NE and Gary (Novella) Nicholas of Cortez, CO, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren, one brother, Harold (Minnie) Horn of Amarillo, TX, two sisters, Eunice Wood of Fresno, CA and Mary Lois Pierce of Billings, MT and sister-in-law, Theo Horn of Amarillo, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, one son, Roy Elmer Nicholas, two brothers, David Jr. and Garland Horn, and two sisters, Gladys Owens and Peaches Steven.
