Former Juniata resident and current Hastings resident, Eugene (Gene) A. Nienhueser, 91, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.
Services will be Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 10:30 am at the Wanda Zion Lutheran Church, near Juniata, NE with Rev. Lon Landsmann officiating. Burial will be in the Wanda Zion Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 22, 2019 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw is in care of the family. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Wanda Zion Lutheran Church, Juniata.
Gene was born April 12, 1928 to Arthur B. and Ruth Carline (Strobel) Nienhueser in Juniata, NE. His mother Ruth passed away when he was an infant. His father remarried and his adoptive mother Laura (Augustin) Nienhueser helped in raising him. He attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School in rural Juniata. He was a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps serving from January 18, 1951 to January 17, 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He married Marilyn Schukei his wife of 50 years, on October 30, 1955 at the Wanda Zion Lutheran Church, Marilyn passed away October 23, 2006. Gene married Marjorie Ahlman on July 17, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings. He was a farmer all his life in the Juniata area, retiring in 1995.
Gene was a lifelong member of the Wanda Zion Lutheran Church, near Juniata. He held many church offices and was in the church choir. He was on the Holstein Fire Department Board, Juniata Coop Secretary, 4H Leader, American Legion member in Juniata.
Gene was very proud of his grandchildren and spending time at their activities. He enjoyed family time together, golfing, hunting, playing cards. He and Marge enjoyed dancing.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie of Hastings,

Son, Noel (Joan) Nienhueser of Juniata
And one sister, Avolon Nelson of Juniata
