Eunice D. Hopkins, 93 of Grand Island died Thursday, April 28, 2016 at Edgewood Vista, Grand Island. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2016 at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Island with the Rev. Edgar Schambach officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until service time on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to St. Pauls Lutheran Church or to the family. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.
Eunice was born August 20, 1922 in Grand Island, Nebraska the daughter of Arnold C. & Hattie (Boltz) Reher. She grew up and received her education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High with the class of 1940. She moved to California upon graduation where she worked for the Lockheed Aircraft Factory. In 1949 she returned to Grand Island where she worked at the Hudson Car Agency. She was united in marriage to James Harry Hopkins, November 3, 1954. The couple traveled to various states working as a chef and waitress. They lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for 11 years. In 1965 she was the Hostess at the American Legion Club on South Locust and the Manager of the Carousel at Conestoga Mall. Before she retired in 1985 she was a Desk Clerk at the Midtown Holiday Inn in Grand Island. Mr. Hopkins preceded her in death, March12, 1985 in Grand Island. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church.
Those left to cherish her memory include her nieces, Sue (Chuck) Hoffman, Rhonda (Rick) Saalfeld, Cindy Husted,(friend, David Voss); and Lyn Schmidt, nephew, Michael (Corliss) Schmidt, great nieces and nephews, Mike, Becky, Jamie, Scott, Laura, Chris, Michael, Amy, Haley, and her God - child, Gigi (Ron) Spollino. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-daughter, Patricia (Robert) McCauley; step-daughter, Ida (Dan) Black; brother, Daryl (Arline) Reher; sister, Bernadine (Earl) Schmidt and nephew in law, Lester Husted.
