Eveliene Carolina (Larsen) Hansen was born May 25, 1917, to Chris and Mathilda Larsen in Ruskin, Nebraska.

She graduated from Nora High School, married Victor Howard Laird on March 24, 1940. They had three children, Carolynn, Aletha Jane and Rox Allen.

Victor passed away in January 1987.

Eveliene married David Hansen in 1989 and moved to Ruskin, Nebraska, and then to the Good Samaritan Village in Hastings, Nebraska, in 1991.

David passed away in May 1998.

The preceding biography was written in longhand by Eveliene in July 2004. Following are some thoughts from her children.

Eveliene had a long life and excellent health until just a few months before her death. She knew only one direction in life: forward.

She learned the meaning of hard work and sacrifice on the family farm in Nebraska. She passed up an offer of marriage and to head off to California with her high school sweetheart. Instead, she was determined to finish high school, much to her fathers dismay.

She cleaned house for a woman in town to raise money to pay for her graduation dress and class ring. After graduation, she left home, moved to Superior and went to work in a coffee shop. There she met Victor. They married, and raised three children. She helped birth countless babies in her many years working as an obstetrics nurse in Kearney, Nebraska, and later in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

When Victor died, she was reacquainted with David Hansen, that young man who had left Ruskin for California a half-century before during the Great Depression. They were married in 1989, and they had nine blissful years together. After Davids death, she met Hershall, who was her companion, her soul mate and her eyes as her vision failed from macular degeneration.

She knew the value of a dollar and was proud of her wardrobe and the many knickknacks acquired from her favorite pastime of prowling thrift shops. A keen sense of humor sustained her through good times and bad. Her death is mourned by her three children, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, her brother Wendell, her cousins and many friends and acquaintances made over nearly a century of life.
