Former Holstein resident, Fern Ruth Pittz, 88, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at St. Johns, Good Samaritan Society, Kearney.



Services will be Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10:30 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein with Rev. Lon Landsmann officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery, Holstein. Visitation will be Friday, July 8, 2016 from 3 pm to 8 pm with the family present from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw is in charge of the arrangements.



Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Holstein or The Lutheran Hour.



Fern was born July 4, 1928 to Christian and Louise (Aufdenkamp) Einspahr in rural Kenesaw. She graduated from Trumbull High School in 1945. She married Lester Pittz on June 15, 1950 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hastings, Lester passed away on June 10, 2002. Fern was a homemaker and farm wife.



Fern loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, vegetable and flower gardening, cooking and caring for animals. Serving her church was her passion.



She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Holstein, Dorcas Society/ LWML and was a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher.



She is survived by, two sons, Larry (Debbie) Pittz of Gibbon and Donald (Joan) Pittz of Holstein and one daughter, Carolyn (Jim) Nelson of Beatrice. Nine grandchildren, Jennifer Pittz, Larry Jr. Pittz, Janelle Pittz, Karen (Jeremiah) Johnsen, Philip (Andrea) Nelson, Mark (Jordan) Nelson, Joseph Pittz, Shanda (Jordan) Lukow and Chantel (Greg) Winz, six great grandchildren and one sister, Lorraine Pittz of, Grand Island.



She was preceded in death by, her parents, her husband, Lester, four brothers, Palmer, Everett, Victor and Orville Einspahr, three sisters, Naoma Van Boening, Olinda Einspahr and Grace Pittz.
