Harvey Scholarship or the First Christian Church in Grand Island. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Florence L. Harvey was born November 11, 1928 in Grand Island, the daughter of Clyde C. & Bessie (Rose) Campbell. She grew up in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School.
She was united in marriage to Philip J. Harvey on November 12, 1949 in York, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Dannebrog, Nebraska for two years, and then Rawlins, Wyoming for 11 years, before returning to Grand Island in 1961. Mr. Harvey preceded her in death in 1991.
Florence most loved her time spent with family, and her solitary times spent embroidering, reading, and working puzzles. She also spent her hours writing beautiful and thoughtful longhand personal correspondence. She had a sly and disarming sense of humor combined with a curiosity about people that attracted them to her and made her memorable. Those who knew her will best remember her as a gentle soul and above all, a giver. Her great generosity, empathy, caring, and kindness made her special among family, dear friends, and these qualities were plain to see even among her casual acquaintances.
She was a member of, and longtime volunteer for the First Christian Church, and she was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, Chapter 41.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters, Annette (Don) Hoops, Elizabeth (John) Harvey-Dirks and Andrea (Gerald) Spencer all of Grand Island; one son, Matt (Judy) Harvey of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Kevin (Jody) Hoops, Korene Hoops-Kanazoe, Kyle Janitscheck, Mallory Spencer; and one great-grandchild, Rocco Philip.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Philip Harvey; four brothers, Charles L. Dodge, Jesse Earl Dodge, Lyman Campbell, Clyde Campbell, Jr.; three sisters, Helen Dodge, Mary Campbell, and LaVina Hagenmaster.
