Hastings resident, Florence O. Shafer, 98, passed away, Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings.
Services will be Monday, April 18, 2016 at 10:30 am at the Rosedale Church, with Pastor Kelly Karges officiating. Burial will be in the Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, April 17, 2016 from 5 pm to 7 pm with family present from 6 pm to 7 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the family.
Florence was born May 6, 1917 to Roy and Bertha (Fuller) Burroughs in Hastings, NE. She attended Rosedale grade school and graduated from Hastings High. She married Orville Shafer on April 6, 1947 in Rosedale, Orville passed away March 28, 1995.
She was a lifelong farmers wife.
She loved tending to her roses, gardening, watching birds and putting out feeders for them. She enjoyed traveling, joy rides, watching the cranes, reading and crossword puzzles. She loved watching the Special Olympics semi caravan every year on hwy. 281. Most of all she enjoyed and loved her time with family and hosting holidays in her home.
Florence was a member of the Mary Lanning Pink Ladies, Pinochle Club, the United Methodist Women, and a life time member of the Rosedale Methodist Church.
She is survived by, her children, DeAnne Burr, of Lincoln, Ken (Marilyn) Shafer, Rick Shafer and Roger (Ammie) Shafer all of Hastings, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
