Frances Brockelsby

Frances E. Brockelsby, 92 of Grand Island, died Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society, Grand Island.



Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the Chapel of Good Samaritan Society, Grand Island with the Rev. Rodney Armon and Rev. Caroline Price-Gibson officiating. Visitation hours will be 1 hour prior to services. Burial will be in Grand Island Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Society. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.



Frances Elizabeth Brockelsby was born June 19, 1924 in St. Edward, Nebraska the daughter of John Peter & Edith (Swanson) Reed. She attended country school in Nance County, attended St. Edward High for 2 years, and because of her fathers death, the family moved to Genoa where she graduated from Genoa High School in May of 1941.



In the fall of 1941, she moved to Grand Island and attended Grand Island Business College. On February 23, 1943 she began working for Sears as a cashier and later transferred to the Auditing Department.



On February 24, 1957 she was united in marriage to Norman D. Brockelsby at the Augustana Lutheran Church in Genoa. In November of 1959, she resigned from Sears to stay home and take care of the birth of their daughter, Ann. After her daughter started school, she went back to work for part time, then to full time accumulating 38 years with Sears.



She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former deacon. She was also a member of the Easter Star. She and her husband were active on the Rainbow Girls Organization for several years. She loved to read and enjoyed her flowers in the summer. She also enjoyed her monthly luncheons with Sears Retiree Group and also a weekly lunch with her specials friends, Maxine and Helen.



Survivors include her daughters and sons in law, Melinda and James Crow and Teresa and Loren Sweley, all of North Platte, NE; grandchildren, Rebecca Crow of North Platte, Michael Crow of North Platte, Jennie and Mauricio Caberera of North Platte, Robyn and Robert Kopcznski of Grand Island, Sam and Sarah Sweley of North Platte, Carol Jean and Brandon Morrison of North Platte, Abby Sweley of North Platte; great-grandchildren, Toby Collins, Zack Edwards, Aaron Caberera, Hannah Caberera, Kolton Sweley, all of North Platte; and special friends, Helen Britian of Grand Island, Maxine Failing of Omaha, Fran Elrod of Grand Island.



She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edith (Swanson) Reed; husband, Norman D. Brockelsby; brother, Richard Reed, sister-in-law, Jean Reed; daughter, Ann E. Perry.
