Frances T. Davis, 91, of Wood River died Monday, September 19, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday at St. Marys Catholic Church in Wood River. The Rev. Jorge Canela will officiate. Burial will be in Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE on Monday, September 26th.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 P.M. Friday at St. Marys Catholic Church in Wood River, concluding with a parish rosary at 7:00 P.M. Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is serving the family.
Frances Theresa Davis was born June 27, 1925, at Grand Island, NE to Harry and Winifred (Murphy) Marsh. She grew up in Grand Island and received her education at St. Marys Catholic School, graduating in 1943. During World War II she was employed by Atomic Energy Commission and later Bell Telephone Company.
Frances married John C. Davis on September 4, 1948, at St. Marys Cathedral in Grand Island. The couple made their home on the farm near Wood River. Frances was actively involved, helping John with the farming operations, as well as being mother to their six children.
She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Wood River, also serving on the Altar Society and was active in the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women. She also taught religious education.
Frances enjoyed playing bridge, sewing gardening and square dancing.
She is survived by five sons and spouses, John T. and Karen Davis of Ravenna, NE, J. David and Cheryl Davis of Casper, WY, Dan and Marian Davis of Wood River, Michael Davis and significant other, Glenda Kahler of Grand Island, and Kevin and Karen Davis of Wood River; one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Matt Moyer of Elkhorn, NE; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John in 2002; and one brother, Jerry Marsh.
Memorials are suggested to the Wood River Volunteer Fire Department.
