Frank Joseph Maixner, 82 of Cairo, Nebraska died October 2, 2016 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 6, 2016 at 10:30AM at Christ Lutheran Church of Cairo with Reverend Brian Wright officiating. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8PM at the church on Wednesday, October 5th. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.
He was born on April 2, 1934 in Sweetwater, Nebraska to John and Rose (Sorensen) Maixner. He grew up in Sweetwater and received his education at District 21 and Ravenna Public. He entered the US Air Force in 1952 and retired in 1972. After retiring, he moved his family back to Nebraska where he worked as a Distribution Clerk at the US Postal Service, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1347, American Legion Post 53 and the American Postal Union. He was united in marriage Edna (Kerher) Hehn on June 9, 1970 in Austin, Texas. Devoted his life to his family, was an avid gardener, fisherman and later made aluminum can airplanes to occupy his time.
Frank is survived by his wife Edna and daughters Pam (Larry) LeGates of Milford, DE, Paula (Mark) Lammers of Onalaska, TX, Pennie (Tim) Eriksen of Boelus, Peggy Lemburg (Tim) of Dannebrog, Michelle Lacey of Grapevine, TX and Roxy (Nick) Kolev of Omaha, 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, sisters Rosaline Wolfe of Trenton, MO, Esther Glinsmann of Ravenna, Mary Daake of San Antonio, TX and brother Raymond Maixner of Norfolk. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack Maixner of Ontario, CA, and sister Ellen Kozel of Cairo.
