Holstein resident, Fred Carl Hohlfeld, 92, died Monday, March 13, 2017 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings.
Services will be Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11 am at the Zion Wanda Lutheran Church, rural Juniata, with Rev. Lon Landsmann officiating. Military rites by the Hastings Veterans Association, following the service. No visitation, Freds wishes were to be cremated. Private family burial will be at a later time, at the Wanda Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Apfel Funeral Home, Kenesaw is in charge of the arrangements. Fred was born November 17, 1924 to Fred and Elsa (Faber) Hohlfeld in rural Holstein, NE. He graduated from the Holstein High School. He married Dorothy David on April 17, 1944; they were married for 72 years. Fred was in the United States Navy from June 8, 1944 to February 28, 1946. He was a farmer in the Holstein area retiring in 1991.
He was a lifelong member of the Zion Wanda Lutheran Church, rural Juniata and a member of the church council. He loved farming and enjoyed rebuilding toy tractors.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Holstein, one daughter, Sheryl (Steve) Heil of Ayr, one son Clyde (Sharon) Hohlfeld of Holstein, four grandchildren, Dawnette (Brian) Kahnk of Omaha, Rachelle (Scott) DeBord of Blair, NE, Clifford Hohlfeld of Hastings and Timothy Hohlfeld of Elk Horn, nine great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Doris Keeling.
