Fred M. Wheeler

Fred Wheeler, 83, of Grand Island, NE died on August 15, 2024, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, NE. A Memorial Service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Apfel Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Jones officiating. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date.

Fred was born on May 26, 1941, in Norfolk, NE to Charles and Eva (Atwood) Wheeler. He grew up in Grand Island, NE and attended school at Trinity Lutheran, Walnut Jr. High, and Grand Island Senior High School, graduating in 1961.

He was a member of the Nebraska Muzzle Loading Rifle Association and the Grand Island Rifle Club. Fred enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, softball, gardening, and being outdoors. Fred’s greatest joy came from spending time with his family, creating and giving gifts, and going for drives with his dog Taz.

Fred is survived by his children: Marty Wheeler and Christi (Eric) Rademacher both of Grand Island, NE; grandchildren: Nate and Sam (Destiny) Rademacher; great grandchildren: Addy, Taya, and Cohen Rademacher; brother, Paul (Helen) Wheeler of Grand Island, NE; and nephews: Troy Wheeler of Grand Island, NE, Audie Wheeler of Plainfield, IL, and Shawn Wheeler of Grand Island, NE. 

He is preceded in death by his parents.
