Clark Dayton Hansel, 74 years of age, of Hastings, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at his home in Hastings. Clark was born November 17, 1942, at Morris, Minnesota, the eldest of two children born to Arthur Louis and Edith Marie (Regelin) Hansel. On December 16, 1942, he was baptized by Rev. H.C. Duchlmeier at the St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Parsonage. When he was a young boy, Clark was raised on a farm near Hancock, Minnesota. The family moved to Arapahoe, Nebraska in 1950, where Clark attended Trinity Lutheran Parochial School through the eighth grade. He was confirmed on June 10, 1956, by Rev. Ted Vogel at Trinity Lutheran. He then attended Arapahoe Public School, graduating from Arapahoe High School with the class of 1960. Clark then pursued a higher education in business in Omaha.
Clark then served his country in the United States Army in South Korea during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Clark began working at Hastings Industries in Omaha. During this time, he met the love of his life, Carol Irene Glathar of Humboldt, Nebraska. The couple were united in marriage on August 4, 1968, at the Rockbrook Methodist Church in Omaha. To this union two sons were born: Neal Alan and Scott Michael.
Clark transferred within Hastings Industries to the main location in Hastings, where he served as the purchasing agent. In 1991, he accepted a position as purchasing agent with the Dutton-Lainson Company in Hastings, and served the company in the same position until his retirement.
Clark became a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in 1971, where he served his Lord in many capacities that included: Elder, Stewardship, Endowment, Congregation Finance Committee Representative, Vice-President and Chairman of the congregation. Many friendship bonds were formed through the years within their church and community.
In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and tending to his yard. When the boys were young, Clark was active as a Boy Scout leader, he was an avid Husker Football and Kansas City Royals fan, and enjoyed attending games on a yearly basis with his boys. As retirement years rolled around, he and Carol loved traveling together, camping, and spending time visiting with family and friends. In addition, time spent with his granddaughters was one of the many highlights of his life. Serving others brought joy to his life.
Clark was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Claude and Mildred Glathar; and brothers-in-law: Merle Glathar and Raymond Badberg.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his wife of 48 years, Carol Hansel of Hastings; two sons: Neal Hansel and his wife, Deborah of Springfield, Missouri and Scott Hansel of Hastings; four beloved granddaughters: Megan, Noelle, Lauren, and Grace Hansel all of Springfield; his sister, Joyce Bauer and her husband, Larry of Lexington, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Doris Badberg of Humboldt; brothers-in-law: Harlan Glathar and his wife, Mary of Auburn, Nebraska and Allen Glathar of Hastings; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
