Gail G. Beukenhorst

Gail G. Beukenhorst, 92, of Doniphan, NE, died Sunday, October 28, 2018, at CHI St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Doniphan United Methodist Church, Doniphan with Reverend Tessa Zehring officiating. Visitation hours will be 5:00 -7:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at the church with the family present at that time. Private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Doniphan United Methodist Church or to the family for later designation. Apfel Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Gail Gordon Beukenhorst was born, August 21, 1926, the son of Jacob and Mary (Bitter) Beukenhorst at their farm home, southeast of Doniphan. He attended District 10 rural school, graduating from Doniphan High School with the class of 1944. He farmed with his father and also ran a commercial trucking business. In 1969, he worked in a food provider warehouse, retiring in 1995 from Food Services of America in Grand Island.

He was united in marriage to Carol Adams, June 11, 1950, at the Rosedale Evangelical Church. The couple made their home on the family farm for the entire 68 years of their married life.

Gail was a member of Doniphan United Methodist Church, Hall County Livestock Association and they were charter members of the Hall County Rural Youth Organization. They also belonged to a Square Dance Club and a Pinochle Card Club for many years. He had also been honored by The Knights of Aksarben for his farm being in the same family for 100 years.

His interest and hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening, working latch hook rugs, travel and his family of which he was very proud.

He is survived by his wife: Carol; their eight children: Cathryn (Ron) McKown, Beverly (Rick) Gilbert, David (Janice) Beukenhorst, Linda Baker, Janice (Gene) Montgomery, Lisa Beukenhorst, Cheryl (Andy) Vajgrt, Larry (Tammy) Beukenhorst; 21 grandchildren: James Hilmer, Lora (Craig) Clapper, Rachel (Jeff) Rice, Robert Gilbert, Ken (Jenny) Beukenhorst, Laura McKinley, Melinda (Mike) Friesner, Alexis (Nate) Hoff, Shelly Montgomery and Scott Mertz, Allison (Steven) Sojka, Doug (Elizabeth) Montgomery, Michael Montgomery and James Wilson, Christopher (Catlin) Johnson, Michael Johnson, Paige Giittinger and Travis Bartman, Nikole (Greg) Bader, Matthew Vajgrt, Abigail Vajgrt, Ashley Beukenhorst, Kaitlyn Beukenhorst and Lindsey Beukenhorst; 14 great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Bob (Mary) Adams; and four nephews and their families.

Gail was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter: Shana Baker; son-in-law: Bill Baker; and niece: Debra Wolffe.
