Hastings resident, Gail Robert Wright, 89, passed away Monday, October 19, 2009 at Perkins Pavilion, Good Samaritan Society, Hastings Village. Services will be Friday, October 23, 2009 at 2 PM at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church, near Glenvil, NE. with the Rev. Renee Johnson officiating. Burial will be at the St. Pauls Lutheran Church Yard Cemetery, near Glenvil, NE with military rites. Visitation will be Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 9 AM to 9 PM with the family present from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Gail was born March 27, 1920, to William W. and Emma (Greener) Wright in Hastings, NE on his grandfather Roberts homestead that he had started in 1886. He graduated from Hastings High in 1938. Gail served in the United States Navy upon the U.S.S. Wainwright, from September 15, 1942 to January 1, 1946 during World War II, serving in the European African and Middle Eastern areas, receiving the Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He married Nellie S. Hinrichs in 1952, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church, near Glenvil, NE. They never had children but they were a summer home to many nieces and nephews. Gail farmed all his life and always helped friends and family, whenever needed after he retired. He enjoyed fishing and traveling in their motor home. He and Nellie traveled all over the United States, including Alaska, as well as Canada and Mexico, always making friends where ever they traveled. Gail was a member of the St. Pauls Lutheran Church, near Glenvil, NE, a member of the Good Sam RV Club and a former member of the VFW. He is survived by wife Nellie of Hastings, NE and many generations of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy Koepke and two brothers, Loran and Lloyd Wright. Memorials may be given to St. Pauls Lutheran Church, near Glenvil, NE.
