Hastings resident, Garry D. Slansky, 68, died Friday, October 12, 2007, at his home 1801 West 4th. There will be no visitation his body was cremated. A wake will be held in Garrys honor, Sunday October 21, 2007 at the Elks Club, Hastings, NE. Friends are invited to visit 1 PM to 4 PM. Burial will be held at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Garry passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was born September 7, 1939, on a farm near Stockton, KS, to Thomas and Margaret (Henry) Slansky. He graduated from Logan High School in Logan KS, in 1957. He served in the Army. He married Norma Pearson in 1962. They divorced in 1981. He moved to Hastings in 1964, where he lived for 43 years. He was employed at Westland Homes for 39 years. In 1987 he married Bonnie Hylan. He is survived by, his wife Bonnie, of Hastings, NE, 1 daughter Lori Rasser and husband Gary of Red Cloud, NE 1 son, Brian Slansky and wife Shirley of Hastings, NE, 2 Stepsons, Gary Hylan of Hastings, NE and William Cooper of Chicago IL, and 3 stepdaughters, Cynthia Laluk and husband Troy of Shawnee, KS, Caryn Powell and husband William of Chicago, IL and Alteria Thames and husband Tim of Savannah, GA. 14 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Randy, a brother, Roy Slansky and 2 sisters, Wauneta Shriver and Betty Sell. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials may be given to the Disabled American Veteran. Brand-Wilson Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
