Gary Jacob Wengler

Hastings resident, Gary Jacob Wengler, 73, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at the Nebraska Heart Institute, in Lincoln, NE. Services will be Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 10 AM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Markel officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Valley Cemetery, near Ayr, NE. Visitation will be Monday, March 15, 2010 from 5 PM to 9 PM at the Brand-Wilson Funeral Home in Hastings; and one hour prior to service time in the chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brandwilson.com. Gary was born July 26, 1936 to Jacob and Margaret (Wermeskerch) Wengler in Hastings. In 1954 he graduated from the Roseland High School in Roseland. In 1954 after his father passed away, Gary moved from Roseland to Hastings. He married LiVonia Gerloff on January 31, 1957 at the First United Methodist Church in Hastings; she passed away July 24, 1988. He married Sherri (Kamler) Saba on April 22, 1995 at the Peace Chapel, Good Samaritan Society in Hastings. Gary was a machinist at Hastings Industries for 32 years before retiring. He is survived by his second wife Sherri, of Hastings; one son, Mike Wengler and wife Nancy; one daughter, Jeanie Pettit and husband Gary, all of Hastings; three step-daughters: Lorraine Anderson and husband, Chad; and Rachelle Beeman and husband Kirt, all of Lincoln; and Sharyl Priester and husband Cory of Grand Island; three granddaughters: Brandi Hinrichs and husband Dusty; Crystal Pettit both of Hastings; and Erin Greenough and husband Ryan, of Assumption; three step-grandchildren, Ashley Anderson of Lincoln; and Alyssa and Anthony Priester, both of Grand Island; five great-grandchildren: Jordon, Logan, Codi, Kassia, and Austin; and one brother, David Wengler and wife Carolyn of North Platte. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife LiVonia; infant daughter Julie; sister Vida; and brothers Dale and Don. Memorials may be given to the family or the American Diabetes Association.
