Gayle Nunnenkamp

February 23, 1950 — November 8, 2022

Gayle Ann (Pieper) Nunnenkamp, 72, of Grand Island passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022, unexpectedly at her home. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Apfel Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Snoberger officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 PM on Tuesday at Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Humane Society. Online condolences may be directed to www.apfelfuneralhome.com.


 

Gayle was born February 23, 1950, in Grand Island to Ed and Mary (Knox) Huebner. She attended District 6 Valley View Grade School and graduated from Northwest High School in 1969.


On October 24, 1970, Gayle married Jerome D. Pieper. They later divorced. They had one son Chad. In 2019, she married Lynn Nunnenkamp, 50 years after their high school romance broke up. The couple lived in Grand Island.


Gayle was employed by Hall County Treasurers Office for 26 years. She also worked in retail, was office manager at Gro-Rite Premixers for five years. Being a farm girl, she also worked for Allan Farms driving the auger wagon (which was the best job).

Her hobbies included paint by number pictures, embroidery work, and diamond dot painting. She enjoyed decorating her home and had a wonderful eye for design. Her dogs, Max and Baby and cat, Molly were very much loved.


Survivors include husband, Lynn; son, Chad (Yolanda) Pieper; grandsons: Owen and Carston Pieper all of Grand Island; stepson, Christopher (Joanna) Nunnenkamp of Atlanta, GA; step grandchildren: Nick (Nicole) Nunnenkamp, Jacob Nunnenkamp; step-great grandchild, Wyatt Nunnenkamp; nephew, Keith (Pepi) Braun, and children Madeleine and Margo of NY; niece, Kristin (Doug) Forrstrom and children Shawn (Katie) Forrstrom and Sara (Dan) Vaughn all of CO; sister-in-law, Kathy (Dave) Pieper; brother-in-law: Lonnie (Carla) Nunnenkamp and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.


She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lavonne (Don) Holst; brother-in-law, Rollin Braun, and niece, Kathy Braun.
