Gene E. Hansen

Gene Hansen, 72 of Grand Island died March 4, 2016. Services will be Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 11 AM at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with Derek Apfel officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Monday from 5 until 7 PM at the funeral home. Memorials have been suggested to Nebraska Hunters Safety Education. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.



Gene E. Hansen was born August 3, 1943 to Elo and Edith (Mortensen) Hansen at Grand Island. He was a 1961 graduate of Grand Island Senior High. He then began working at City Electric. He was united in marriage to Eileen Robinson on June 22, 1962. In 1968 he went to work for Fairmont Foods. In 1969 he started working for Island Supply Welding Co, and also worked for Larry Iversen at Wood River Locker. In 1981 he went to work for Joe Tyler on a farm and in 1982, went to work as manager for Polk Feed and Mill until they sold the business. He then went to work for Harrington Sisters Livestock until they sold out; then going to work at Harless Oil Co. until 2006. He then worked for Ben Rhoads part time until retiring at age 64 due to health issues. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.



Survivors include his wife, Eileen Hansen; daughter, Jayne Hansen; sons, Brad and Troy Hansen; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Agnes (Gilbert) Page and Diann (Robert) Lehn as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
