BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. George Dale Billington, 76, of Black Canyon City, Ariz., formerly of Grand Island, died June 1, 2017, in Arizona.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 12, at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island.
There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
George was born in Grand Island on Feb. 18, 1941, to Dale and Alice Marie (Watson) Billington. He graduated in 1959 from Grand Island Senior High, where he was a standout athlete in football, basketball and track. He then joined the U.S. Navy, in which he was stationed in San Francisco and served at Midway, the Philippines and Okinawa, Japan. He returned to the United States and married Lois Falldorf on July 21, 1963. They lived in Grand Island until 1986, when they moved to Johnson Lake. George worked for Chief Industries, A and L Sales and Service in Henderson and Prudential Insurance.
His wife, Lois, passed away on Feb. 16, 2007. After her passing, George lived in Omaha briefly and traveled the country in his 5th Wheel before settling in Black Canyon City, Ariz.
George enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, Nebraska football, processing meats and making sausage, and more recently ATV riding with his friends in Arizona.
Survivors include his sons, Martin (Kelley) Billington of Seattle, Wash., and Kevin (Shelly) Billington of Grand Island. Grandchildren include Ryan, Luke, Megan, Andrew, Kaden, and Elizabeth. Sisters include RuthAnn Carlson of Omaha and Mary (Tony) Sydzyik of Grand Island.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother-in-law, Tim Carlson; a daughter-in-law, Lori Billington; and an infant grandson, Jaron Billington.
Memorials are suggested to the National Cancer Society.
