Gerald E. Jerry Murray, 85, of Shelton died Monday, January 13, 2014, at his home in Shelton surrounded by his family.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be Friday at 10:30 A.M. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton with the Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Visitation hours will be from 6 to 7 P.M. Thursday with the parish rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton. Burial will be in St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery in York, NE at 3:00 P.M. Friday. Memorials are suggested to the family to be designated at a later date. Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River is caring for the family.
Jerry was born, September 8, 1928, at Beatrice, NE the son of John and Frances (Wilmer) Murray. He grew up and received his education in the Beatrice area graduating from Beatrice High School in 1947.
He was united in marriage to Olive Rosalie Gilbert, November 27, 1954 in Seneca, Kansas. The couple lived in York where they owned and operated Jerrys Shoe Service for 35 years before moving to Clarkdale, Arizona where they enjoyed 13 years of their retirement. In 2005 they moved to Shelton to be closer to family. Olive R. Murray preceded him in death, October 5, 2012.
Jerry was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church in York and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shelton for the last 8 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. and American Legion. Jerry enjoyed playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory include a son & daughter-in-law, John & Dana Murray of Goodland, Kansas, daughters & sons-in-law, Kay & Cary Epp of Minden, Nebraska, Brenda & Dave Austin of Shelton, Nebraska, grandchildren, Jessica (Brandon) Hassler of Omaha, Travis (Monica) Epp of Kearney, Abby Murray of Goofland, KS Emily (Brock) Lohr of Lincoln, David & Matthew Murray of Goodland, Cory & Jarrett Austin of Shelton, great grandchildren, Kelsey & McKenna Hassler, Rileigh Epp & Cooper Lohr.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Olive R. Murray, a grandson, Jeffrey Drapal.
