Gerald Jones

Gerald S. Jones, 89, of Doniphan, died Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Tiffany Square surrounded by his family. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Friday, May 4, 2018, at the Rosedale United Methodist Church with Reverend Tessa Zehring officiating. Burial will follow at the Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.



Gerald was born on January 25, 1929, at Doniphan, NE to Walter Scott and Alpha (Wiggers) Jones. He grew up on a farm west of Doniphan and attended school in Doniphan. He graduated from Doniphan High School in 1946. On December 4, 1951, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. Gerald was honorably discharged on November 20, 1953.



On February 6, 1954, Gerald was united in marriage to Patricia Rainforth at Rosedale United Methodist Church. After which the couple lived and worked on the family farm.



Gerald was an active member of the Rosedale United Methodist Church. He served on the Doniphan school board and the Hall County Planning Commission. He enjoyed farming and raising livestock. In 1984, Gerald was recognized by the Knights of AK-SAR-BEN for continued ownership of the family farm for more than 100 years. He found great pleasure in his children and grandchildren, for whom he was a wonderful role model.



Left to cherish his memory: wife: Patricia of Doniphan; sons: Michael (Cheryl) Jones of Doniphan, Doug (Shelly) Jones of Doniphan, Bradley (Kristi) Jones of Doniphan; grandchildren: Tony (Jamey) Jones, Jessica (Brandyn) Lonowski, Cory (Jacie) Jones, Jered (Tausha) Jones, Tiffany Jones, Benjamin Jones, Nathaniel Jones; great grandchildren: Tenley Jones, Creed Jones, Haedyn Lonowski, Gavin Jones, Aurora Jones, Brooklyn Lonowski, and Knightly Jones.



Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Virginia Jacoby.
