Hastings resident, Glen O. Lamphiear, 89 also known as G.O. passed away, September 17, 2014 at the Grand Island Veterans Home in Grand Island, Nebraska.



Services will be Monday, September 22, 2014 at 10 am the First Christian Church in Hastings with Pastor Dustin Bower officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, NE with military rites. Visitation will be Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 2 pm to 6 pm with family present from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home in Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.apfelfuneralhome.com. Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings is in charge of the arrangements.



Memorials may be given to First Christian Church or the Shrine Transportation Fund.



Glen was born October 17, 1924 to George W. and Grace E. (Green) Lamphiear in Leon, Iowa. He graduated from Leon High School in 1942. Glen attended Simpson College 1942-1943 and subsequently served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He married Laura E. Allsup on October 11, 1945 in Des Moines, Iowa. They moved to Hastings in 1946. Laura passed away March 13, 2007.



Glen founded Lamphiear Construction Company with his father, George, in 1946. Lamphiear Construction and Supply was incorporated in 1960. Glen was also a real estate broker. His wife, Laura, was his constant companion and played a very large part in the operation of the company, serving as vice president. They continued in business until 2002 when they retired. After retirement, Glen and Laura spent many enjoyable years camping and traveling with friends.



Glen was a member of the First Christian Church in Hastings serving in various capacities including the member of the board and property committee for many years.



Glen was an active member of many Masonic organizations including Blue Lodge #50, 17 years as a member of the Shrine Scottish Rite where he served on the Divan for 9 years, past Potentate of the Shrine (1996), President of the Nebraska Shrine Bowl in 1996. He was also a member of York Rite, Eastern Star, and the Jesters.



Glen was an active member of various service organizations including a lifetime member of the Elks Club, lifetime member of the VFW Club, Commander of the VFW club in 1954, a member of the Hastings Noon Lions Club since 1956, a member of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce and a past board member of the Salvation Army.



He is survived by 2 daughters, Dianne Hopkins of Hastings, NE, Denise Newton (Rich) of North Platte, NE, 1 son Greg Lamphiear (Becky) of Boelus NE, son-in-law Roger Hohlen of Hastings, NE.



He is survived by grandchildren, Jim Hopkins (Lettie Van Hemert), Cincinnati, OH, John Hopkins, Cheyenne, WY, Robert Hohlen (Jenn), Grand Island, NE, Bill Hohlen (Kelly), Doniphan, NE, Doug Hohlen (Amber), Hastings, NE, Sarah Quandt (Brian), Grand Island, NE, Geoff Lamphiear (Joyce) Clifton, KS, Grady Lamphiear, Kearney, NE, Mike Newton (Carmi) Anthem, AZ, Dave Newton (Sarah), Omaha, NE and Lindsay Newton, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.



He also is survived by 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.



He is survived by 2 sisters Frances Kost, Burlington , Iowa and Dorothy Losee of Grand Island, NE , sister in law, Beverly Lamphiear of Hastings, NE, and longtime friend Beth Oschner, Minden, NE.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Laura, daughter, Karen Hohlen, 2 sisters, Jayne Northcutt and Martha Lamphiear, 2 brothers, Elmer and Howard Lamphiear and brother-in-law, Alan Losee.
