Glen R. Hutton, 97 of Grand Island, formerly of Cairo died Monday, November 20, 2017, at Nebraska Veterans Home, Grand Island.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, November 27, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Grand Island with Father Martin Egging officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cairo. Visitation hours will be 4-6 PM at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island with the parish rosary to be recited at 6 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Nebraska Veterans Home of Grand Island.

Glen Roscoe Hutton was born, April 25, 1920, in Todd County, South Dakota, the son of Sidney Clay and Urvilla Isabelle (Brown) Hutton. He grew up and received his education in Cairo, Nebraska, graduating from Cairo High school with the class of 1938. He entered the United States Army Air Corps, July 12, 1940, and during WW II, he met Veronica Irene Flach; who was serving with the United States Womens Air Corps. They were united in marriage, November 27, 1943, in Sedalia, MO. Veronica was honorably discharged in 1944, and Glen received his honorable discharge, October 19, 1945.
The couple made their home in Cairo, living there a short time before moving to Grand Island; where they owned and operated the family business, Huttons Washer & Appliances, for 56 years. He was a long-time business man in the area also owning and operating Ronnies Laundry Service. Veronica Irene preceded him in death, September 2, 2004.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, American Legion, Knights of Columbus and Teammates. He was a long-time supporter of Nebraska Cornhusker Football. He was the last surviving member of his high school class.
Those left to cherish his memory include three daughters & sons-in-law, Helen M. (Hutton) Hoes of Omaha, Nebraska, Glenda A. Hutton Stejskal & Gary Stejskal of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Elizabeth A. & Larry Kuta of Grand Island, son, Robert P. Hutton of Bellevue, Nebraska, grandchildren & spouses, Jon Kuta, Grant & Denise Stejskal, Hannah Hoes & Matt Allen, Kevin & Leighann Stejskal, Sarah Kuta, Scott Hutton, Raina Hutton, great grandchildren, Ben Kuta, Penelope Stejskal, David Stejskal, Theodore Stejskal, Sister, Mae Belle Birbeck of Rockport, Maine, special friends, Don & Bev Brewer & Dorothy Vejvoda.
He was preceded in death by his wife Veronica I. (Flach) Hutton.
