Grace Schnase, 88, of Cairo died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Tiffany Square Care Center, Grand Island. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo with the Reverend Glen Keylon officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 1, 2013 at Riverside Cemetery Gibbon, Nebraska. Visitation hour will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo. Memorials are suggested to Moses at Comfort Dog Ministry. Apfel Funeral Home of Wood River is caring for the family. Grace Schnase was born January 15, 1925 in Gibbon, Nebraska the daughter of George & Blanche (Scott) Connor. She grew up in Gibbon, graduating from Gibbon High School. She was united in marriage to Don Schnase, November 30, 1942 in Concordia, Kansas. The couple lived the majority of their married life farming in the Shelton and Cairo areas with the exception of two years when they resided in California. Grace began her employment with the State Bank of Cairo in 1963, retiring in 2005 after 42 years. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cairo, and their Ladies Aid. Her greatest joy came with spending time with her family, reading magazines and coddling her Siamese cat. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Don Schnase of Cairo, four children:, Victoria Schnase of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Darrel & Ruth Schnase of Northglenn, Colorado, Jackie & Dan Collins of Eaton, Colorado and Terri & Scott Bilslend of Grand Island. Also left to cherish her memory are her 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, one brother, James Connor of Billings, Montana. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son, Stephen Karl Schnase, two sisters, Belva Hawke, and Doris Kluver, and one brother Clifford Connor.
