Grethel Dora Forsman

Hastings resident, Grethel Dora (Janssen) Forsman, 92, passed away, Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Harvard Rest Haven, Harvard, NE. Series are pending with the Apfel Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Services will be Thursday, September 26, 2013 at 10 am at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, with Pastor Barry Rempp officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 4 pm to 7:30 pm with family present from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at the Apfel Funeral Home Chapel, Hastings, NE. Apfel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Grethel was born March 10th 1921 in Glenvil, NE. She grew up on a farm near Ayr, NE and graduated from the Glenvil High School in 1939 and received a diploma business school in Grand Island, NE. She married her husband of forty four years Norbert Forsman on June 7, 1969. In addition to raising two families she was employed as the manager and operator of the Hastings branch of the Orthopedic Brace Company where she measured, fabricated and fit patients. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Hastings, NE. She loved to gardening, ceramics, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family and many grandchildren. She had flawless complexion with hazel green eyes that accentuated her beauty. She is survived by her husband Norbert Forsman of Hastings, NE her children Sandra Williams and Patricia Williams of Grand Island, NE, Jerry Borrell of Lincoln, NE and Stanley Borrell of Broomfield, CO, step-daughters, Carol Aden of Cortland, NE, Theresa Forsman of Bloomfield, NJ, Rebecca Janning of Port Ludlow, WA and Brenda Kramer of Lincoln, NE, 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother Johanna Janssen, one daughter, Shirley Wilson, one granddaughter, Sally Williams, and an uncle, Frank Janssen.
