Gwen (Christiansen) Lubeck
Our beloved Mom and Grandma, 89, passed away peacefully in her Mesa, Arizona apartment on Monday, October 12, 2015.
Gwen was born January 22, 1926 in Enders, Nebraska, to Julius and Ruth Christiansen. The family later moved to Kimball, Nebraska, where she graduated from high school. Gwen graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1947. Gwen married Lee Lubeck on August 16, 1956 and shortly afterward they moved to Grand Island, where they raised their family and where she always called home.
A homemaker, Gwen loved raising her family and never missed a school function, a sports event or a church activity. She liked to cook and bake and prepared many wonderful meals for family gatherings and holidays. She also loved spending time with her family, and often traveled around the country to visit her grandchildren.
Gwen enjoyed playing card games and sharing meals with her group of friends, who became family over the years. Gwen was a faithful church member at Trinity United Methodist Church, serving in many positions through the years, including teaching Sunday School, Womens Bible Study Groups, and volunteering for many church events. Her love for the Lord was evident to anyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lee, her parents and her brother, Jack.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Allen Nelson of Gilbert, Arizona, her three sons and their wives, Alan and Laurie of Overland Park, Kansas, Jerry and Mary of Littleton, Colorado and Larry and Kim of Omaha, Nebraska, 14 grand children and a brand new great-grand daughter, her brother Bob and his wife Dorothy of Kimball, Nebraska, sister-in-law Vivian of Brighton, Colorado, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 on October 24th at the Apfel funeral home in Grand Island, with visitation beginning at 12:00 p.m. Instead of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be given to your local Hospice Care agency or to Fellowship Square in Mesa, AZ.
