He married Phyllis (Rezac) Parlin at St. Marys Church in Highmore April 16, 1945.

The couple made their home in Hyde County, S.D., with Harold working as a carpenter and later as a farm hand south of Holabird, S.D. In 1964 Ankony Farm of New York purchased the Clayton Jennings Hyland Angus Ranch and Harold continued with the cattle operation and later became the manager of the Highmore ranch. In 1975 the Ankony ranch was sold once again and Harold and Phyllis moved in 1977 to Grand Island, Ne., and worked for Quirk Land and Cattle Company residing at the Taylor Ranch.

Harold retired in 1990 and they moved to Alda, Ne., then moving to Wood River, Ne. in 2003. During his retirement years Harold enjoyed his grandchildren, gardening and outdoor work, and his beloved baseball games on TV.
