Harry J. Songster, 82, Hastings resident, died Saturday July 8, 2006 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island, NE. Memorial service will be Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 11:00 AM at First Christian Church, 1201 Sheridan Drive, in Hastings with Rev. Judith Allen officiating. Inurnment will be held in Parkview Cemetery with military rites. There will be no visitation, his remains were cremated. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Mr. Songster was born December 25, 1923 to Harry and Buda (Horton) Songster in Exeter, NE. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1943 and worked for Debus Baking Company. He entered the Army in July 1943 and served in the European theater until his discharge in December 1945. He attended baker's college in Chicago Illinois and returned to Hastings to work for Debus and later Metz Baking Company until his retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He is survived by son David of Omaha, NE, son Steven of Lincoln, NE, daughter Debra Boyer of Loveland, CO and son Michael of Cottonwood, AZ; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren; two brothers, Leonard of Concord, CA and Robert of Hastings. He was preceded in death by sister Wanda and brother Rex. Memorials may be given to the First Christian Church of Hastings.
