Helen Cecilia Manion

Helen Manion, 98, longtime Doniphan resident passed away Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Tiffany Square. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Giltner with Fr. Dhan Raj Marneni as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 until 7 PM with a Rosary at 7 PM all at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Casual attire is requested for services. Memorials have been suggested to masses at St. Joseph Catholic Church or to Tiffany Square. Apfel Funeral Home is serving the family.

Helen Cecilia Manion was born February 19, 1918 to William and Nellie (Madden) McNerney at Atchison, Kansas. She attended school at St. Louis Catholic in Kansas and Oshkosh, Nebraska. She grew up in Oshkosh. Helen was united in marriage to John Manion on October 12, 1937 in Oshkosh; after which the couple resided in Doniphan where she was a housewife and mother. Helen was a member of the St. Joseph Altar Society of Giltner; the Deep Well Homemakers Club of Phillips and St. Leos Catholic Church of Grand Island.

Those left to cherish her memory include daughter in law, Vicki Manion of Kearney; grandsons, Shawn Manion and Terrence Manion of Kearney; special great-nieces, Laura Happold and Karly McNerney; as well as other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; sons, James and Robert; brothers, Donald and Maurice McNerney and sisters in law, Violet McNerney and Betty McNerney.
