Former Grand Island resident Helen Lucille Selko, 78 passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa after a short bout with cancer. Rosary will be Saturday August 6, 2011 at 10:00 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial service at 10:30 AM at the St. Josephs Catholic Church in Harvard, Nebraska with Father James Benton officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery in Friend, Nebraska. Visitation will be Friday, August 5, 2011 from 3 PM to 6 PM with the family present at the Alberding-Wilson Funeral Home in Harvard, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family from www.brandwilson.com. Lucille was born August 21, 1932 to George and Mamie (Donnelly) Selko on a farm south of Harvard, NE. She attended Harvard Schools and the St. Joseph Catholic Church both in Harvard, NE. After graduation she had several waitressing jobs, and spent most of her working life as a bartender/waitress in Grand Island, Ne. Her favorite place was the Leiderkranz. Upon retiring she lived in Grand Island with her brother Joe until his death. She recently moved from Grand Island to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Her main interests were her grandchildren and their families, Cubs baseball, Bears and Nebraska football, and casinos. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Cliff Wiles of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Eight grandchildren: Carrie and Todd Reiser of Kansas City, Missouri, Robert and Stacy Wiles of Lincoln, Nebraska, Brad and Molly Wiles of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Lindsey and Josh Burgland of Monmouth, Illinois, Nick and Meghann Wiles of Kansas City, Missouri, Matt and Abby Wiles of Alexis, Illinois, Elizabeth Wiles and Stephanie Wiles of Denver, Colorado. Eight great-grandchildren. One sister, Florence Selko of Chicago, Il. Several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Brothers George Bernard, Joseph, James; and one sister, Virginia. Memorials may be given to the family.
