Helen Mae Stock

Hastings resident Helen Mae Stock, 84, passed away Monday, September 26, 2011, at College View Assisted Living, Hastings, NE. Services will be Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 11 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings, NE with Rev. Cindy Kargas and Rev. Dr. Lee Wigert officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Book signing will be Wednesday, September 28, 2011 from 9 AM to 9 PM at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home, Hastings, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brandwilson.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Grace United Methodist Church, Hastings, NE. Helen was born May 6, 1927 to Gus and Frieda Runge in Clay Center, NE. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1945. She then attended Hastings College. She married Eldon E. Stock on June 6, 1948 at Evangelical Brethren Church in Hastings, NE. She sold Avon and worked as a receptionist at State Federal Savings and Loan and Farmland Industries, before retiring in 1986. Helen was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and was active in the Ruth Circle and Christian Builders Sunday school class since 1953. She was also a member of the Hastings P.T.A., and was a Hastings Mothersinger. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, golfing at Southern Hills Golf Course and cheering on the Big Red. Yet, her greatest joy in life was raising her three children and later spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Eldon, and daughter, Susan Phinney both of Hastings, NE, two sons, Jerry and wife Glenda of Norfolk, NE and Tom and wife Connie of Spokane, WA, six grandchildren, Jeff and Greg Stock, Chad (Suzanne)and Ryan (Jessica) Phinney and Hillary and Casey Stock, four great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Austin, Ethan and Elise. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson Brent Stock.
