Helen Virginia (Hinkson) Larson, 103 years of age of Grand Island died Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Riverside Lodge, Grand Island, Nebraska
Celebration of Life memorial services will be 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017 at Cairo United Methodist Church, Cairo, with the Rev. Cathryn Cat Love officiating. Inurnment will be in Cameron Cemetery. A time of fellowship will follow at the church hall following the service. Memorials are suggested to Cairo United Methodist Church. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Helen V. Larson was born March 16, 1914 on the family farm south of Cairo the daughter of Preston & Arendse (Dehn) Hinkson. She grew up in rural Cairo and received her education from District 14 and Wood River High School, graduating with the class of 1931. She attended the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the Teachers College in 1938. She taught elementary school for 17 years in rural Hall County, Shickley, Scottsbluff, Cairo and Centura.
She was united in marriage to Rudy V. Larson, November 28, 1941 at Papillion, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Hardy, Grand Island and later Cairo, Nebraska. Rudy preceded her in death in 1982. In February of 1994 she moved to Riverside Lodge in Grand Island where she has resided.
She was a 50 year member of Cairo United Methodist Church and Dorothy Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Those left to cherish her memory include, two sons & daughters-in-law, James & Rachelle Larson of Pensacola, Florida, Stephen & Roberts Larson of Inkom, Idaho, one daughter, Susa Larson of Tucson, Arizona, three grandchildren, Dehn, Anna & Michael, one brother, Keith Hinkson of Wood River, Nebraska, numerous niece & nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by parents, husband, Rudy, five brothers, Evertt, Dean Hugh. Frank & Preston (Jr.) Hinkson, one sister & brother-in-law, Alice & Maurice McKeag, sisters-in-law, Vera Hinkson, Florence Hinkson, Lavonne Hinkson & Mabel Hinkson.
