Hastings resident, Helena “June” Cassel, 91, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare.
Memorial service will be Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 11am at the First Christian Church, Hastings with Pastor Jim Gordon officiating. There will be no book signing, June’s wishes were to be cremated. Inurnment will be at a later day at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Hastings. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church. Apfel Funeral Home is in care of the family. June was born June 26, 1926 to Alfred and Reka (Lindeman) Hoyt in Fairfield, NE. She attended school in Fairfield. She married Clyde W. Cassel, Sr. June of 1942 in Belleville, KS. Clyde passed away on December 6, 1989. June and Clyde were baptized in 1952. She has lived in Hastings since 1953 coming from Chester.
June retired from Central Supply at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital. She was a cook at various places in Hastings, Ruby’s East Gate Café, and the Adams County Nursing Home.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Hastings. June was a very active member in the church.
June enjoyed family and tending to her peonies.
She is survived by one son, Clyde “Bill” William, Jr. and wife Barb of Lincoln, two daughters, Marjorie June Landburg and husband Steve of Warrenton, OR and Loretta Jean Selko and husband Bob of Hastings, 7 grandchildren, Cindy DeWalt and husband Daniel of Chicago, IL, Julie Monaghan and husband Brian of LaVista, NE, Lori Cassel of Lincoln, NE, Mike Snyder and wife Sally of Hastings, Dale Selko of Hastings, Glenn Selko and wife Julia of Hastings and Sheri Thompson and husband Jeff of Allen, TX, 16 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, one brother, Allen Hoyt Sr. and wife Marlene of Hastings, and one sister-in-law, Sharon Hoyt of Hastings and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clyde, Sr., two brothers, Lawrence (Lorrene) Hoyt and Gerald Hoyt, two sisters, Pat (John) Shivvers, Leahdele (Emerson) Cassel, three nieces, Barbara Merrell, Carol Cagley and Jeanne Cassel and one nephew Edward Cassel.
